Sussex County Cricket Club (SCCC)
Assignment:
The Leisure Consultancy & Drivers Jonas Sport provided a Master Plan for SCCC in association with Synergy LLP and the Miller Bourne Partnership
Background:
Over a number of years SCCC had developed its facilities in an unplanned manner, often responding to particular demands with no overall strategic direction. This had led to a fragmented 'offer' mainly geared to matchday requirements and this in turn has resulted in an over reliance on revenue generated from matchdays.
The Consulting Team in association with Drivers Jonas were appointed by SCCC to prepare a Masterplan Plan to provide guidance to SCCC in terms of their future ground development. This reflected the fact that many professional sporting organisations (e.g. professional football and cricket clubs) have developed facilities appropriate to both matchday and non-matchday use, thus generating revenue from a wide range of sources, with less reliance on 'matchday income'. The decision was made therefore, to develop a Masterplan for the ground to enable overall financial sustainability to be attained.
The Masterplan provided the following benefits:
- A cohesive, planned development which optimised the site opportunities
- Provision of 'state of the art' facilities which would be appropriate for both matchday and non-matchday uses
- A ground/stadia development which would be vibrant, based on year round usage, attracting a range of market sectors including sport, business; health; education; leisure & hospitality; and retail thus enabling the complex to become a destination in its own right
- Improved visibility and profile
- Financial sustainability
